Shawn has been receiving speech and language services since April 2004
under a speech and language delay. It wasn't until February 2005 that he
was seen by a new therapist who immediately began talking about Apraxia.
From April 2004 to March 2005 he was receiving 1 hour weekly of speech and
language and once the diagnosis of Apraxia was made, he began immediately
receiving therapy 2 hours weekly (both therapist and us agreed that we
needed to up it).
I (Shawn's mother) work for a local school district as an educational
consultant with my experience primarily in special education. Both my
husband and I have been working diligently with Shawn and his therapist
and have seen many great improvements. He currently has mild to moderate
delays with Verbal Apraxia. Currently, we do not see any other delays in
other areas (cognitive, fine/gross motor, etc.).
